On July 29th I reached out to the ghoulie community and asked if anyone could help name my newest pet. I decided to make it a contest thinking I would just be able to pick one of the names. Alas, the decision was too difficult so I called in some help.
First I printed out the blog avatar from everyone that made a suggestion. I placed them on my old Underwood typewriter for a photo op:
Then I dropped the avatars into my handy, dandy Brain Freeze cup which is carefully guarded by my in-office butler, Gravesly:
I asked Bucky to give me a hand and he did more than that! He gave me his whole arm:
He swished around inside the cup and promptly crawled into my French Flies box waving the winner in the air:
Congratulations to Mike from The Skull & The Pumpkin!
Mike actually had two suggestions for a name:
1. Vespertina
2. Batrick/Batricia (depending on gender)
I'm still not certain if it's a she or a he but I've decided to call her Batricia Vespertina. So, now my "vittle friend" has a first and last name.
Thanks Mike! Be sure to send me your mailing address so I can get you that little something-something.

Name My Newest Pet Contest
I took a little time away this past March to check out the TransWorld Halloween Show. We had a great time and were in haunt overload by the time we left.
I met a lot of great people including two of my favorites; Chad Savage (Sinister Visions) and Edward Douglas (Midnight Syndicate).
By now you've seen all kinds of glorious gory goodness from the event so I won't rehash everything so far after the fact. I was drawn to a lot of the independent artists at the show and one in particular had the most "adhorrible" little artifact. Meet my newest pet:
My girlfriend who I had dragged along with me, and who is not "that" into Halloween, took one look at it and said "If you don't buy it I'm going to have to". Enough said.
Yes, it is real.
Yes, it died of natural causes - or so I was told.
Yes, I carried it around like a newborn child for the entire afternoon.
Yes, I was stopped often. Even Phil Morris stopped me to chat about it.
Yes, it is awesome.
I haven't named the little guy yet (or girl....hmm how do I tell what it was?) - but it will play a small part in this year's Halloween party scavenger hunt as The Bat Of Belfry.
If you have any clever name ideas toss 'em my way. If I choose yours I'll send you a little something-something. I can't wait forever for a name so be sure to post your suggestions by midnight CST, Sunday, August 5th. I'll announce the winner Monday, August 6th.

It Is Finished...
Or at least as finished as it's going to get.
Ever since Scott over at Tortured Pumpkins announced he was running another of his Build-Me-A-Pumpkin contests I've been pondering a design. Frankenstein's monster is my favorite character so that was my initial thought. Someone beat me to it and I didn't want to do what someone else had done. Besides that entry is a fine specimen - I absolutely love it!
So, back to the drawing board... I considered several other pumpkin designs but finally decided on being myself - a Ghoulie Girl. I thought perhaps something girly and ghoulie and semi-creepy all in one.
"Ghoulie Gourd Girl" has sat on my desk for a couple of weeks now. I think that she could still use some shading and touch ups. I've tweaked her when I have had time and while I'm not convinced that she's done, she's as done as she's going to get. We are sneaking away for a few days for a much needed break so my deadline is now. (The actual deadline is midnight August 11.)
If you haven't already, you really need to pop over to Tortured Pumpkins to see all of the entries. I'm so glad I'm not a judge as it would be hard to choose.
Also I'm sending out a big THANK YOU to Scott for running the contest. I haven't had much time the past few years to create much of anything and for some reason this contest lit a fire under my butt and got me going. If nothing else I've got a nice little piece of Halloween art for the new studio.

Zombies Are Everywhere
Ok Ghoulies...here's your chance at some Haunted Hot Sauce and some smelly goods (so you don't reek of BBQ).
Pop on over to ShellHawk's Nest to let her know what your name would be if you were a zombie. If you're already a zombie I suppose you can use your real name - but I'll leave that ruling to Shelley.
Also, saving this one for just the right occasion, here's a link to a discussion on zombie army names. Seven hundred of them to be exact. With armegedon on the horizon and the government on the verge of default I suppose now is as good a time as any to insure you have the proper name for your zombie army.
Oh, and while I'm on the subject... let me point you over to Halloween Blues in case you missed The Walking Dead Season II trailer. It's gonna be an exciting season!

Torture The Pumpkin
Doesn't that title sound like a fun game?! Actually it's a contest hosted by Scott Stoll of Stolloween/Arsenic Asylum/Tortured Pumpkins/Scotty Art fame.
Scott is giving away two tortured papier mache pumpkins. You heard me right. You have a chance to win one of these "bad seeds" by the master of mache. Head on over to Tortured Pumpkins for all of the details.
On second thought, don't. I plan to enter and if you enter too that will decrease my odds. No really, it's probably best that you don't enter.
